What does it mean to work on/implement a user story? You could think of a user story as a problem to be solved.
Here are my proposed guidelines on how to think about user stories.
Solutions improve problem understanding and may also create new problems - when you create a solution you understand the problem better Problems are subjective - itâs common to think of solutions being subjective. However, problems themselves are subjective for a variety of reasons Thinking approaches which redefine the problem - there are various techniques which may redefine the problem Developers should contribute to problems as much as clients Solutions always involve compromise Design solutions are always holistic Problem solving is a non-linear, endless process Instead of thinking of a linear process from problems to solutions, itâs more accurate to think of user stories as a negotiation between problems and solutions

I think what I have written shows a unified view of testing and development, where the focus is on solving problems. This also doesnât focus on roles and activities, but is more about the end goal.
Although I have spoken about user stories, this can be applied to any software development approach. Itâs just a bit easier to think about user stories since they are end-to-end.
